How To Become a Court Reporter in Georgia

To become a reporter in Georgia, you have to pass either the NVRA exam or the NCRA exam, along with the Georgia Licensing Exam (GLE). Once you have passed your respective exams, contact the Board of Court Reporting at GCR@georgiacourts.gov to request a license application. There is no notary requirement. Judicial Council of Georgia

The Judicial Council of Georgia was created in 1945 and serves as the policymaking body for Georgia’s judiciary. The Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) was created in 1973. As staff to the Judicial Council, the AOC provides subject-matter expertise on policy, court innovation, legislation, and court administration to all Georgia courts.

Board of Court Reporting

The Georgia General Assembly established the Board of Court Reporting, BCR, of the Judicial Council of Georgia to license, create standard practices, discipline, and regulate Court Reporting in Georgia. The Board of Court Reporting establishes and enforces standards that govern court reporters and provides a forum for exchanging ideas and educational services.

BCR requires all GA certified court reporters to annually complete 10 CEUs (continuing education units) approved by BCR.
Also, BCR requires newly certified reporters to attend their LEAP Seminar (Learning Essentials About Professionalism). For further information or questions, contact GA Board of Court Reporting, 404-463-3808.

Georgia Courts Registrar

CCRs must create an account online through the Georgia Courts Registrar at GA Courts Registrar (GCR) Login. Once your account is created, this is where all CEUs each year will be submitted. BCR requires submittal of CEUs within one month of attending a CEU training/class.

GCRA offers an annual seminar online where, at minimum, 10 CEUs approved by BCR can be obtained.
Once you are registered for GCRA’s seminar, the classes/trainings offered can be taken during the official 2-day seminar, or for two weeks after the scheduled seminar, all sessions will be available online for registrants to complete. Two weeks post seminar, all attendees will be sent the appropriate certificate to upload onto your account at Georgia Courts Registrar through their online portal to obtain CEU credit.
